Program Overview

To our Striver Families,

The Governor’s Address Monday gave us some encouragement that we will be able to have a Fall Season, although potentially modified, starting in late August or after Labor Day. Your daughter’s health and safety have always been our top priority and will continue to be during these crazy times. Although we do not yet know the new guidelines, with regard to COVID 19, please know that we will adhere to the policies put in place to keep the girls safe. We are carefully following the updates from the State of Massachusetts and will keep you advised of our plans for a Fall season. We appreciate your patience and your support during this time. We miss your daughters and our running community!

The STRIVERS Running Club for Girls program encompasses encompasses not only running, but exposes the girls to great motivational speakers and provides them with community leadership opportunities

The STRIVERS Running Club for Girls program is designed for 5th -8th grade girls.

What’s New for SPRING 2020

For such a simple and basic movement, the act of running has been uplifting our spirits and inspiring our minds for generations.  STRIVERS aims to give your daughters a reason to run, provides companionship and a sense of identity & pride as she runs, and creates a place where she can be part of something special as she find her niche and builds her confidence.

We are excited to tell you more about our Spring 2020 Season!  Once again we have worked hard to bring the best races, events, and opportunities to your daughters. We will cross train in a garage gym, our community awareness projects are fun and easy, and we are proud to get involved in The 2020 Boston Marathon again both with our speakers and some local residents running for the STRIVERS Inc. Scholarship Fund.

In addition, we will be offering a complimentary Couch to 5K coaching program for parents who would like to train to join their daughters at the 5k races.

Spring Session 1 will participate in the 7th Annual Run Like A Maverick 5k to benefit the Elizabeth Schickel scholarship fund.  Elizabeth grew up in Natick and attended the Montrose School.  She was an outstanding athlete in multiple sports and loved to run. Elizabeth lost her battle to cancer in 2014.  STRIVERS is thrilled to be part of this race  honoring Elizabeth’s Memory.

Spring Session 2 will be running in The Susan McDaniel Run for Love 5k .  This is our 10th year running in this terrific and family fun race that takes place on the Weston Common.  Proceeds benefit the Therapeutic Horse-backing Riding Camp at Lovelane.

Cross Training

All athletes realize the importance of cross-training.  We will be working with Coach D of FIERCE by Choice ( Fight, Inspire, Encourage, Reach, Coach, Empower) this spring. We’re fusing a full body bootcamp, fierce mindset coaching, and a grounding yoga series into a one hour practice.  This practice has been designed to help the girls and team let go of limiting beliefs, challenge their bodies in ways that compliment their running, and shows them what they are truly capable of both on and off the track.

Special Events for STRIVERS

Spring is all about the BOSTON MARATHON.  We plan to have our STRIVERS Inc. Boston Marathoners Runners, Mark Goldschmidt and Ilyse Rikleen join us for a few runs as they prepare for April 20, 2020.  You can learn more about Mark and Ilyse and donate to their fundraising efforts here

In addition, both Teams will have the opportunity to meet Becca Pizzi and Bobbi Gibb.  (We will be setting a date soon based on their schedules).

Becca is a Two Time World Marathon Challenge Champion. In 2018, Becca conquered the World Marathon Challenge …7 Marathons, 7 Continents, 7 Days.  Repeating her 2016 victory, Becca impressively crossed the finish line setting another World Record, putting her in the Guinness Book of World Records

Bobbi ran the marathon on 1966 before women were allowed entries.  She is recognized by the Boston Athletic Association as the pre-sanctioned era women’s winner in 1966, 1967, and 1968.

Community Outreach

Each session, the girls work on their community leadership by reaching outside of themselves and positively impacting the community they live in. Or, we introduce the girls to a cause we have studied and feel strengthens their character as young women.

For Session 1, we will be supporting our Marathon Runners efforts.  We will provide your girls with an opportunity to get on the course and host a water stop during the runners training, a cheer zone on Marathon Day, and we hope to have fun & easy fundraising project too.

For Session 2, we are excited to work with a new non-profit called BookBindED.  This organization works to cultivate a culture of literacy in communities of at risk youth by binding connections between home and school through fostering a love for reading.  We plan to host a book drive to support BookBindED.  To learn more:

Please note, our spring season will consist of two sessions and two different races.
