Program Overview

The Fall 2017 Season

The STRIVERS Running Club for Girls program encompasses not only running, but exposing the girls to great motivational speakers, author-led discussion groups, and providing them with community leadership opportunities.

The STRIVERS Running Club for Girls program is designed for 5th -8th grade girls.

What’s New for Fall 2017

We will be running in two of our favorite races and have made some exciting new changes this season.  We will have two opportunities for the girls to get involved in community events that showcase what STRIVERS is all about (Natick Days and The Flutie 5K).  In addition, the girls will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop where they will practice confidence, self care, friendship and creative expression through yoga and photography. Finally, we are excited to offer presentation by Growing Girl P.O.W.E.R where they will learn about healthy nutrition and positive body image.

Races

Fall Session 1 will participate in the 17th Annual Eastern Bank Doug Flutie, Jr. 5k, Natick to benefit the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.  This will be STRIVERS 9th year participating in the race.  We are also grateful to MetroWest Medical Center who continue to host this race and also sponsor our team uniforms.

Fall Session 2 will be running in Bill’s Pizzeria 5k, Newton. This race benefits the Travis Roy Foundation. We are thrilled to be running for the 8th year in a well organized race that is dedicated to enhancing the life of spinal cord injury victims and families.  Plus, it’s always a treat for the team to meet Travis and hear his words of inspiration.

Cross Training and Self Improvement

All athletes realize the importance of cross-training. This fall we have added a new workshop where the girls will cross train, practice confidence, self care, friendship and creative expression through yoga and photography. The unique program lead by Tara Morris of The Love Offensive for Girls.  Your daughters will participate in a 2 hour workshop where they will experience the best of yoga, learn to trust their bodies, identify their strengths and gifts and finally celebrate each other through photography. Developing a Healthy Culture

In our effort to bring only the best to our program, we are bringing to our teams a presentation by Ashley Bade of Growing Girl P.O.W.E.R. (potential, ownership, wellness, empowerment and respect).  Ashley will have a hands on fun evening of learning about nutrition and positive body image. Community Outreach

Each session, the girls work on their community leadership by reaching outside of themselves and positively impacting the community they live in. Or, we introduce the girls to a cause we have studied and feel strengthens their character as young women. This fall our teams will work with the following local organization:

A Place To Turn is a local organization in Natick that is committed to providing emergency food and clothing to our neighbors in the Metrowest community.  The STRIVERS will be collecting “athletic” socks for A Place To Turn during the month of September and diapers during October.  Their efforts to aid other young athletes helps these children build community and leadership two feet at a time.

Please note, our fall season will consist of two sessions and two different races. The fall sessions overlap by two weeks and therefore, we will only allow sign ups for ONE session per girl so that we can accommodate the demand for our program.

Refund Policy: The registration fee minus $25 processing fee will be refunded if cancellation occurs before the first week of practice.  No refunds will be issued after the session starts.

Our program runs twice a year, Fall and Spring.   We limit the number of girls we take in each session in order to make this experience rewarding for your daughter and allow us to maintain the intimacy of the group.  Girls interested in STRIVERS should have some athletic ability and the desire to run.
