Program Overview

SPRING 2019 – Registration will open on 2/12/19 at 7:00 AM

The STRIVERS Running Club for Girls program encompasses not only running, but exposing the girls to great motivational speakers, author-led discussion groups or workshops, and providing them with community leadership opportunities.

The STRIVERS Running Club for Girls program is designed for 5th -8th grade girls.

What’s New for Spring 2019

Spring is often looked at as a time of rebirth and inspiration.  So why not help your daughter start the season off with a refreshed outlook and a way to help her become more confident.

After what seems like an eternity of cold, dark, wintry runs, there is finally sunshine, clear streets, and road race season on the horizon.  Plus, spring in Massachusetts means the ultimate race goes through town, The 2019 Boston Marathon. We can’t wait to tell you how STRIVERS is involved this year.

We hope to inspire you daughters by introducing them to a group of Natick Residents running the Boston Marathon on behalf of the STRIVERS Inc. Scholarship Fund.  Your girls will have the opportunity to help support our runners on their long practice runs and on race day.  In addition, some of our favorite runners are back in town and if their schedules permit, they hope to stop by and visit our teams (Uta Pippig, Becca Pizzi and Thomas Madut).

Races

Spring Session 1 will participate in the 6th Annual Run Like A Maverick 5k to benefit the Elizabeth Schickel scholarship fund.  Elizabeth grew up in Natick and attended the Montrose School.  She was an outstanding athlete in multiple sports and loved to run. Elizabeth lost her battle to cancer in 2014.  STRIVERS is thrilled to be part of this race in honoring Elizabeth’s Memory.

Spring Session 2 will be running in The Susan McDaniel Run for Love 5k .  This is our 9th year running in this terrific and family fun race that takes place on the Weston Common.  Proceeds benefit the Therapeutic Horse-backing Riding Camp at Lovelane.

Cross Training

All athletes realize the importance of cross-training.  We will be working with Functional Strength Coach and registered Yoga Instructor Rebekah Lacava this spring.  In a one hours session, the girls will work in pairs focusing on leg, core, and balance strength as it relates to running.  The class will conclude with a mindful yoga practice.

Special Event for STRIVERS

Both Teams will have the opportunity to visit Wegmans. Wegmans philosophy of healthy living and community support comes to us in the form of a STRIVERS Fun Health Event.  We will be visiting the Natick store for a tour and cooking class. The STRIVERS will learn about healthy eating and how it impacts their overall health.  This will be a hands on, dynamic, instructional event aligning Wegmans Food Markets Who We Are Values with those of the STRIVERS Running Club.

Community Outreach

Each session, the girls work on their community leadership by reaching outside of themselves and positively impacting the community they live in. Or, we introduce the girls to a cause we have studied and feel strengthens their character as young women.

For Session 1, we will be supporting our Marathon Runners efforts.  We will provide your girls with an opportunity to get on the course and host a water stop during the runners training, a cheer zone on Marathon Day, and we hope to have fun & easy fundraising project too.

For Session 2, we are currently exploring fundraising projects and will post the project once it has been chosen.

Please note, our spring season will consist of two sessions and two different races. The spring sessions overlap by one week and therefore, we will only allow sign ups for ONE session per girl so that we can accommodate the demand for our program.

Refund Policy: The registration fee minus $40 processing fee will be refunded if cancellation occurs before the first week of practice.  No refunds will be issued after the session starts.
