Program Overview

The Spring 2018 Season

The STRIVERS Running Club for Girls program encompasses not only running, but exposing the girls to great motivational speakers, author-led discussion groups, and providing them with community leadership opportunities.

The STRIVERS Running Club for Girls program is designed for 5th -8th grade girls.

What’s New for Spring 2018

Who run(s) the world? Girls! The majority of runners who participated in races in 2016 were women—that’s 9.7 million finishers compared to men’s 7.3 million nationwide—according to new data from Running USA.  Female runners dominated almost every race including 5Ks.

Our goal is to expose your daughters to this amazing life long sport that builds character and self esteem while inspiring them along the way.  One way we strive to do that is by bringing in great role models.  This spring, we have the unique privilege of having Becca Pizzi, the 2016 World Marathon Challenge Winner back to speak with us.  Becca will have lots to share with our teams as she will be running seven marathons on seven continents in seven consecutive days AGAIN starting in Antarctica on January 28th!

In addition, our friend, constant STRIVER supporter, and three time Boston Marathon Winner, Uta Pippig, reached out and if her schedule permits, she will also visit us this spring with her mission to help people achieve a greater sense of wellbeing through inspiration, education, and lifestyle changes—made one small step at a time.

Races

Spring Session 1 will participate in the Run Like a Maverick 5k to benefit the Elizabeth Schickel Foundation.   Elizabeth, raised in Natick, attended the Montrose School.  She was an outstanding athlete in multiple sports and a role model both on and off the field.  Sadly, Elizabeth lost her battle with brain cancer in February of 2014. The Foundation’s mission supports initiatives that build character and virtue in young women. STRIVERS is proud to be part of this race in honoring Elizabeth’s memory.

Spring Session 2 will be running in The Susan McDaniel Run for Love in Weston.  This is our 8th year participating in this amazing race and we love the program at Lovelane Therapeutic Horse-backing Riding Camp that hosts this event.

Cross Training and Self Improvement

All athletes realize the importance of cross-training.  We are thrilled to be working again with Energy Fitness & Gymnastics.  Here the girls will have the opportunity to work on their strength and agility as it relates to running.  In a one hour session, the girls will be introduced to a fun and energizing cross training class that will focus on agility, plyometrics, core strength, and balance for runners!  The staff is encouraging and enthusiastic!  Check them out at: www:energyfitnessgym.com

Author Led Book Club is back!

Both Team will be reading “Beautiful Blue World” by Suzanne LeFleur .  We will then have the opportunity to meet and listen to Suzanne (who grew up in Natick) discusses her book and the entire writing process with us. For more information on Suzanne please visit: http://www.suzannelafleur.com/

Community Outreach

Each session, the girls work on their community leadership by reaching outside of themselves and positively impacting the community they live in. Or, we introduce the girls to a cause we have studied and feel strengthens their character as young women.

For Session 1, we want to create an opportunity for the girls to show their support for other females runners and will announce this exciting challenge soon.

For Session 2, we hope to be paired with a child who benefits from the Lovelane program and raise funds in their honor.

More details on each outreach project to follow.

Please note, our spring season will consist of two sessions and two different races. The spring sessions overlap by one weeks and therefore, we will only allow sign ups for ONE session per girl so that we can accommodate the demand for our program.

Refund Policy: The registration fee minus $25 processing fee will be refunded if cancellation occurs before the first week of practice.  No refunds will be issued after the session starts.

Fee $225 $225

Our program runs twice a year, Fall and Spring.   We limit the number of girls we take in each session in order to make this experience rewarding for your daughter and allow us to maintain the intimacy of the group.  Girls interested in STRIVERS should have some athletic ability and the desire to run.

Refund Policy: The registration fee minus $25 processing fee will be refunded if cancellation occurs before the first week of practice. No refunds will be issued after the session starts.
