Program Overview

The Fall 2018 Season

The STRIVERS Running Club for Girls program encompasses not only running, but exposing the girls to great motivational speakers, author-led discussion groups or workshops, and providing them with community leadership opportunities.

The STRIVERS Running Club for Girls program is designed for 5th -8th grade girls.

What’s New for Fall 2018

In a year where the news has centered around females finding their voice and making huge strides we want to help your girls make positive changes through the simple act of running.

Look no further than what Desiree Linden did winning The Boston Marathon and becoming the first female American to do so in 33 years.  On top of winning, she ran through powerful headwinds and cold rain, considered dropping out then reached out to help her fellow American competitors.  ”We all want to win,” said Linden, “but at the end of the day, it wasn’t just about the individual – it was about getting the win for America.”  Her example of teamwork and dedication is something to inspire us all.

We also strive to help your daughter navigate through those middle school years that breed insecurity.  Our speaker this season will focus on the ‘social media’ world we all live in today.  STRIVERS will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop presented by Media Girls, that will help them discover their self-worth, and harness the power of media for positive change.

Races

Fall Session 1 will participate in the 19th Annual Doug Flutie, Jr. 5k. This local race is favorite as all funds raised to go the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for autism.  This fall marks the 10th Year the STRIVERS will be participating in the race!

Fall Session 2 will be running in The Bill’s Pizzeria 5k to benefit the Travis Roy Foundation.  This is our 9th year running in this terrific and family fun race that takes place in Newton Center and ends with a pizza party and live music at Bill’s in Newton. The Travis Roy Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the life of spinal cord injury victims and families.

Cross Training

All athletes realize the importance of cross-training.  We will be working with Natick Youth Fit this fall.  Here the girls will have the opportunity to work on their strength and agility as it relates to running.  In a one hour session, the girls will be introduced to a fun and energizing cross training class that will focus on agility, plyometrics, core strength, and balance for runners!

Special Event for STRIVERS

Both Teams will be invited to a presentation by Media Girls. Media Girls teaches girls and young women to harness the power of media for positive change.  Participants learn to transform social media from a space known for breeding insecurity, to one where they express their authentic selves, challenge sexist media, and speak up for what they believe in.

Community Outreach

Each session, the girls work on their community leadership by reaching outside of themselves and positively impacting the community they live in. Or, we introduce the girls to a cause we have studied and feel strengthens their character as young women.

For Session 1, we will be providing the girls with back packs and asking them to fill them with school supplies for A Place To Turn.  Providing children at need with school supplies helps to strengthen their success rate both in and out of school.

For Session 2, we will be collecting athletic socks for A Place To Turn. Their efforts to aid other young athletes helps to build community two feet at a time.

A Place To Turn is a local natick organization that is committed to providing emergency foot and clothing to our neighbors in the Metrowest Community.

More details on each outreach project to follow.

Please note, our fall season will consist of two sessions and two different races. The fall sessions overlap by one week and therefore, we will only allow sign ups for ONE session per girl so that we can accommodate the demand for our program.

Refund Policy: The registration fee minus $25 processing fee will be refunded if cancellation occurs before the first week of practice.  No refunds will be issued after the session starts.
